# Pressure on divers

Inside a sealed submarine, the hull takes the pressure. Outside it, you do.

## When it applies

* You are in the water. Standing in a dry, sealed room of a submarine never counts, however deep the submarine is. A flooded room does.
* Your depth is the water above your eyes, measured like the depth of a submarine: straight up, until the first pocket of air. See [Water pressure](/create-deep-seas-wiki/deep-seas/mechanics/water-pressure.md).
* Lava counts three times as deep, like for hulls.
* Players in creative or spectator mode take no damage.

## Your limit

| | Limit | Crushed at |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----- | ---------- |
| No suit, or an incomplete one | 120 m | 180 m |
| Full [Copper Diving Suit](/create-deep-seas-wiki/deep-seas/diving-gear.md) | 280 m | 340 m |

### Before the limit

* At **90 % of your limit** (108 m without the suit, 252 m with it), your character says something about the pressure in grey, above the hotbar. It only happens when you cross that line, and at most once every 5 minutes 30.
* With the full suit, your depth and your limit show in the bottom right corner while you are in the water. The text turns orange at 90 % and red past the limit.

## Past the limit

* **Your sight closes in.** Within 3 seconds the edges of the screen go dark and blurry, and every sound gets muffled. It fades out once you are back above the limit.
* **You take damage**, every second at first and faster the deeper you go. The camera shakes with each hit. Armor, Protection and shields do not help.
* **10 m past the limit**, you get Slowness I.
* **60 m past the limit**, you are crushed instantly. Nothing saves you there, not even a Totem of Undying or Resistance.

| Past the limit | Damage | Every |
| -------------- | --------------- | ------ |
| 0 m | ½ heart | 1 s |
| 30 m | 1½ hearts | 0.75 s |
| 59 m | almost 3 hearts | 0.5 s |
| 60 m | death | |

Without armor, that is about 40 seconds right past the limit, and around 5 seconds at 30 m past it. Go back up as soon as your sight starts to close in.

{% hint style="info" %}
The client option `pressureEffects` turns off the dark edges, the blur and the muffled sound. The damage stays.
