# Decompression Chamber

The Decompression Chamber is a valve that floods and empties a room. With two of them you build an airlock, to leave and board a submarine underwater.

## Recipe

![Decompression Chamber recipe](https://1371052705-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV22FKtcNjWW37kUFLLdR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-13a1d9c286543cfcb77b6abdc16406398a77f5bd%2Fdecompression_chamber.png?alt=media)

## How to build an airlock

1. Build a small sealed room with two doors: an outer door to the sea and an inner door to the ship.
2. Place a Decompression Chamber so one of its faces opens into the airlock. Its back face is the pipe port and must stay reachable.
3. Place a second Chamber so one of its faces opens onto the sea. Facing the sea, it gives and takes water without limit.
4. Link the two pipe ports with pipes and a Mechanical Pump.

### Going out

Pump from the sea into the airlock. It floods layer by layer, from the floor up. Once it is full, open the outer door and swim out. The water is at the same level on both sides, so nothing rushes in.

### Coming back

Close the outer door and reverse the pump. The airlock empties back into the sea. When it is dry, open the inner door and step inside.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Never open the outer door while the airlock still holds air once the submarine is at 80% of its hull limit or deeper (the Barometer on Warning or Critical). The sea crushes the airlock in.
{% endhint %}

## Good to know

* The room fills from the bottom up, so you can stop the pump halfway for a half-flooded room.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Details to look for**

* The water rises in the airlock one layer at a time, from the floor up, and goes down the same way.
