# Pulley

The Pulley clamps a ship onto a [Steel Cable](/create-deep-seas-wiki/deep-seas/cables-and-tools/steel-cable.md). The ship then follows the cable wherever it goes, like a cable car.

## Recipe

![Pulley recipe](https://1371052705-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV22FKtcNjWW37kUFLLdR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e151cb51a9adf8eb9c5ea11e37c1a0036c89aed3%2Fpulley.png?alt=media)

## How to use it

1. Place two Pulleys on the ship, facing each other with one block between them.
2. Bring them over a Steel Cable so the cable runs between the two wheels.

They pinch the cable and the ship is attached. It slides along the cable and cannot leave it.

## Overheating

A pulley slides at up to 24 blocks per second (`pulleyMaxSlideSpeed`). Running at that top speed heats it up: after 30 seconds at full speed both pulleys catch fire and break, and the ship lets go. Slow down for a moment and they cool off.

## Good to know

* Both pulleys are needed. A single one does not grab anything.
