# Arresting Hook

A hook that grabs a [Steel Cable](/create-deep-seas-wiki/deep-seas/cables-and-tools/steel-cable.md) stretched across the ship's path and brings it to a stop, like a plane landing on an aircraft carrier.

## Recipe

![Arresting Hook recipe](https://1371052705-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FV22FKtcNjWW37kUFLLdR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-47c5a8fb0b0b8e13b0ac5cd51b315947cb53239d%2Farresting_hook.png?alt=media)

## How to use it

1. Place it under the ship.
2. Stretch a Steel Cable across the landing zone.
3. Give the hook a redstone signal: it lowers its arm.

When the arm passes within 2 blocks of a Steel Cable, it grabs it and brakes the ship until it stops. Cut the signal to raise the arm and let go.

## Good to know

* It only grabs Steel Cables, and never one tied to its own ship.
* It only works on a ship. Placed in the world, it does nothing.
* The cable acts like a spring: the ship slows down over a few blocks instead of stopping dead.
